I knew after Goliath's diagnosis that i was in for the long haul. The vet warned me that taking care of a megaesophogous puppy was going to be difficult, especially with the extremely high risks of recurring aspiration pneumonia, but i was ready to take on the challenge. I just couldn't give up on that precious little face!
His chair was made, and he was doing great! Regurgitation happened rarely, and he seemed to be gaining weight. I was very excited by his progress. We had a few minor set backs. A couple involving him getting into the cat food, and a bag of candy corn.
Another issue presented itself. A little white worm-tape worm- found in his stool. Luckily, that was taken care of with an antibiotic which i crushed up and put in his mix of wet prescription food, wet high protein food, and water.
When that was taken care of i thought for sure there was nothing else that could stand in his way, and there was nothing else i couldn't protect him from. Unfortunately, i was wrong and noticed he was losing hair on his ears. Of course, i brought him to the vet and found out hair loss, is actually quite common in dachshunds due to their bad skin. I bough him a fatty fish oils liquid which i proceeded to pump into his mixture of food each day. The skin and hair on his ears improved. Another battle won for Goliath =)
